I found this old car soon after I moved to Bakersfield almost 3 years ago. It looks virtually the same; perhaps a little more rusty and a few new bullet holes. I couldn't resist using the swirling grasses to frame this profile with the mountains in the background. The light was soft, which allowed me to control the contrast while bringing out all of the colors. I will be back soon as the wildflowers are coming in and I think this old car would look great surrounded with lupine and owls clover (you can see them coming in in the near distance). Thanks for your assessments and make sure to click the image for a Larger preview!

I agree that you should come back to this when the wild flowers bloom. This is a very nice image now but add colors and texture of flowers, maybe early morning light (cant tell what light would hit this best) with some sparkling dew and wow! I hope to see the next one soon, love old rusted cars ;)

All the best, Pamela

Great shot Mark. I really like this. Your title is fitting. I think Pamela's version would be an interesting variation, however I like it this way with the foreboding sky. Best wishes-Jim

Keep coming back indeed, shoot all the seasons. The soft light really allows you the light control here to be very effective. Well done.

Thanks Tim, Pamela, Jim and Craig for stopping by! Pamela, I am definitely going to get back over here before too long. Meanwhile, I didn't anticipate cooler weather. That might not work in my favor because at this elevation, there may have been a frost, which could kill some of the blooms before they have a chance. This is more of a morning location as the hill on the right blocks late day sun. I will keep you posted!

Hey Mark... Great shot with the old car and the beautiful surrounds. Is that really a Ford? Some of the features look like an old Studebaker. Anyway, an interesting find for you... Mike

Thanks Richard, Kevin and Mike. Mike, I couldn't come up with a clever acronym using Studebaker (that would be impressive if I did), but I think you're right. I may get back over here this weekend but it is really depressing. The wildflowers are checking out fast. We had a very wet winter with el nino, and it was shaping up to be incredible. Then after early March, we began the typical pattern of sunny and dry. If only the wet pattern could have continued. Even still, while it lasted the flowers were quite good compared to the last couple of years. The change into summer bums me out!

Hey Mark, I appreciate your effort and patience to make it better in a proper time. That's a nice shot, The only point I see is having a wider shot. It could emphasize the old car an make more contrast with nature.
