jeffl7 0 Posted April 1, 2010 She's quite pretty, but it's her smirk of a smile that gets me. Link to comment
gsphotoguy 2 Posted April 1, 2010 A very good portrait, Brad. You have captured both a lovely expression and beautiful light as well. The choice of B&W was quite appropriate. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 2, 2010 Brad, I'm going to be a little more critical than some of the others who critiqued this portrait. I hope you don't mind. Angelina is a very pretty girl. She has a cute expression. Her skin tone is very good. The background is nicely out of focus and Angelina is separated well from it. You have focused quite well on her eyes (they are not in critical focus). If you are going to darken the background you don't want it to look like you did. There appears to be an obvious light halo around Angelina. The left and right compositional balance is excellent. I would crop just a tad off the top. Do not pose your subject straight on to the camera. This is not a very feminine pose. Showing your subject’s widest areas (shoulder to shoulder or hip to hip) makes those areas appear wide. Your subject will appear thinner and more feminine, graceful and elegant if turned at an angle to the camera. The lines you see from an angle have more apparent motion, interest and grace. It usually looks best to angle your subject somewhere around 45 degrees. It might look a little better if her right shoulder wasn't hunched up quite so much. Her dress looks very pretty, but you want to avoid bold patterns in clothing. In a portrait the subject’s face is what is most important and nothing should draw the viewer’s attention away from the face. Your lighting is nice, but I would like to see more light in Angelina's eyes. They are a little dark. The whites of her eyes should be whiter. They look a little grey. It would also be good to have catch lights in them to give them more life. Her eye make-up looks good, but she could use a little lipstick and some blush. You really should get rid of the dark circles under her eyes and the hairs falling across her eye and face. Nice shot, Mark Link to comment
