Interesting documentary image with good exposure and DOF. It works well for me, too, in BW. Am wondering if it would be worth using some PS magic to remove the background stuff in the top LH corner?

An honest and open portrait study. I do not find the environment bothersome in this case at all, Meir. shalom aloha, gerry

Nice portrait, a winning smile. I also think that the BG was not disturbing in this case, just a mild reminder that the soldier-girl is part of this world and neither floating in space nor posing in a studio. Regards, Tibi

Hi Meir, after seeing the alternative version, I have to agree with the other commentators ... the original version is fine as it is. I think it's because the little bit of background gives it context. Both images, though, are very good - great light and DOF. Thanks for responding, Margo.

Excellent photo! What drew me in to this photo in the thumbnail was the expression and friendly smile on the young woman...when I clicked on it and saw further the detail, I was surprised she was a soldier. The gun in her lap contrasts with her warm and friendly demeanor which just makes this an even more interesting image.

I have read the other comments and I don't find the background bothersome at all...this is a street shot...and an excellent one at that! Thank you for sharing this photo and a part of your world. :)

Very nice portrait. Intense and well composed. I really like also the Upper Leht Corner with "stuff" in it, because it adds life in background and help not to isolate the soldier.
