This is a casual shot I took on the street with my point and shoot. Does anyone know

what the flower is? It was in San Francisco. Thanks for the information and your

Larry, so this was taken with a point and shoot. to me the quality is not bad and as i said earlier, it depends on who is doing the shooting. this image as just a simple example of a camellia, ( what this flower is ) and its foliage, is well done!

I second its ID - a camellia. A genus of flowering plants in the family Theaceae. Tea is a member of the same family, and occasionally classified as a camellia and some Camellia leaves are drunk as tea, such as the Christmas Camellia is in Japan. Yours pictured looks like an example of a semi-double cultivar.
