Taking a snapshot you have to act quickly in order to seize the moment, here you have managed to capture a frame with a leading line – Cylinder, Main subject, Pedestrians in the background.

Interesting and unusual scene.

When I was in Germany in 1962-64 I was always impressed with the way the common workers (janitors, street sweepers, maintenance men etc) came to work:  hat, jacket, white shirt & tie, nice trousers & shiny shoes, briefcase (contained lunch & a beverage).  They all looked like business men on the way to the office.  Of course they would change into coveralls and work gear before they started work and change back at the end of the day for the journey home.  Classy!  This guy in your photo must have been a subterranean engineering supervisor.  A top hat  yet!  To the casual viewer he could be entering a storm sewer.  Surely not?  I'd say this one was a success mainly for the contrast it provides:  a man dressed for the office coming out of (or entering?)  a sewer!  Superb catch!  Congratulations!  Oh yes, & Merry Christmas.  Best, LM.
