This is the old corn mill In Rossett. It is estimated that the original

building was first built in 1474 during the reign of King Edward 1V, then

later re-built in 1588 and further extended in 1661, it continued as a

working mill untill 1949, an impressive 475 years of producing flour!.

There can't be too many things that work for that long and looks this

good. It is now a listed building and a private residence. I've tried to

capture the quirky architecture, and rustic look of the building.

Your thoughts and comments are always appreciated

Thank You.

Thanks for the story about this old building. It is remarkably well-preserved! Lucky owners! The image is wonderful.....tack-sharp and shot at just the right angle. Perhaps the owners would like a copy of this.....if you get back that way. :-)

Hi Alf!

I really enjoy your work. This is a charming image of a lovely, quaint 475 year old building. Thanks for including the history. In North America buildings are all temporary structures, most don't last 100 years. My son bought a "Heritage" house, built in 1912, we all thought that had history! Best wishes, Linda

What a fantastic photo from you. Splendid colors and lighting and excellent post treatment. The way you have composed the shot really brings out the best of the old beautiful mill. I enjoy the background story as it adds to the atmosphere when viewing the image. The soft reflections in the water also brings out the best in your great work. Congratulation my friend to a work very well done. Take good care now and all the best to you and your family from Jannica

Very helpful to have the background information. Photos like this make me want to get on a plane and come for a visit. The blue grey sky gives your photo a very interesting backdrop and the light is very dramatic. Nicely done!

Thank you I'm really pleased you liked it. I don't get over to the USA as often these days, but when I did I was in awe of some of the old timber houses in New Jersey, the design was brilliant and they looked really good too. I was really amazed to see one being transported whole down a main highway, being moved to a new location, now you can't do that with a 500 year old corn mill! : - )

ANTONIO

I look at some modern architecture and wonder to myself if mankind is making any kind of progress at all. Thank you Antonio, much appreciated!

Many thanks, it does look a bit surreal, a bit like the witches house in "Hantzel & Gretle" with marzipan walls and a gingerbread roof : - ).

There isn't much i can add that hasn't been said already. This is a great shot of a wonderfully preserved building. I liked to read the history you provided. Really interesting. It always fascinates me when i read about places in Europe that have been around for 5 or 600 years. One can only imagine what life was like in those days. If you allow me a few nit pics (really that's what they are because the photo is really great) i would probably clone or remove the little bits of grass in the left lower corner. There also seems to be a bit of a halo around the tree, i dont know what post-processing you did on this photo, but the halo seems to suggests that you have masked that area when you darkened the sky. Other than that this is a glorious shot. Regards - michel

Fantastic photo of a place of great historical value. Great control over exposure. Like the awesome details in the picture. I however agree with the previous comment about those grasses and the halo surrounding the trees. Nice work nonetheless.

I think my 'spackle' is about that old....perhaps that is why it is my face often looks cracked and decaying like an old fossile that just isn't aging quite fast enough!.......however, age and preservaton go hand in hand and this wonderful example of the aforementioned is a perfect example of those who 'care'. While writing this I"m only seeing the reflection in the water and this image itself is excellent. I'm adding my name to your long list on this one.....I don't thnk I have another adjective to describe this shot....the 'thesaurus was a bust'..........so let's just say....you know I'm a Fan.........and you've once more not failed to 'please'. congrats...Gail
