Spring is swinging into full gear along the lower foothills outside of Bakersfield. This one particular spot is dense with fiddleneck wildflowers. They are called such because they have a coiling top, much like the neck of a fiddle. When the sun sets as a backdrop, their orange glow is visually arresting. The air was still, allowing me to get in closer and add some depth. Meanwhile the flowers remained motionless, allowing for a 1.5 second foreground exposure. The single oak helps break up the scene, the long diagonal splits the frame evenly. Finally, a scattering of blue dicks adds another color to the yellow-orange landscape. I think you will enjoy the Larger preview. Thanks for looking and offering any observations!

Mark - This is a real stunner! The wedge of sky is well balanced by the wedge of FG flowers and more distant flowers. The sky looks perfect and as usual, excellent blending on what must have been a darker FG at this time of day. Looks like a beautiful area you live in. Enjoy the change of season.

Thanks Arup, Joanne, Harry and Janice! I appreciate your kind observations. This would be my favorite (scoring lowest of course) of my recent shoot. For me, it is the closer flowers, giving more depth. I especially like the two flowers sticking up above the rest. Thx again!

Mark: Thus is a stunner. The larger view is fascinating and makes me think this needs to be a very large print! All the picture elements work harmoniously in this to produce a thing of beauty. The reaching clouds are just right and add a sense of understated drama. Totally awesome!

Hey Marc, you snuck in there while I was responding to others, Thanks for stopping by. Yeah, I can see myself spitting this out of the old Epson 7800 at 22 inches wide. This will probably go in my office space!
