The direct sunlight on this flower is rather harsh and it somewhat obliterates the delicate texture of the petals. Diffused light would have been much better. Whenever I photograph nature, I always take my 5-in-1 30" reflector set with me. It folds up into a package that is flat and about as big around as a basketball. The basic reflector is of a translucent material, perfect for a soft reflector or a diffuser. By placing it between the sun and this flower, you would have gotten a very soft and diffuse light, which would have been much more flattering and would have preserved the most delicate of details and textures.

I used some fill flash and perhaps that was too harsh. I have some without. I need to go back and look through. THe sun was not bright here yesterday. I was trying to use the fill to produce some shadows but perhaps i over did it some.
