Not Here 93 Posted February 25, 2010 David... This is classic, both the canoe and the capture... Love it and wish I were there!... Mike Link to comment
rlopezmoral 1 Posted February 26, 2010 Interesting post edition work, David ... I don´t imagine how you did it, but is really good. Regards. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted February 26, 2010 Painterly seems too trite a word to use, but †his does have that feel of a painting rather than a photo. Link to comment
David-Wisse 5 Posted February 26, 2010 Thank you gentlemen - I spent a lot of time on this one, and I appreciate everyone's positive response. Best wishes, David Link to comment
amirali 1 Posted February 26, 2010 Very nice work. so calm. I think the horizontal lines are the key factors of calmness. colors also contribute to that. Link to comment

timzeipekis 5 Posted February 27, 2010 David, this is a beautiful shot! You handled the DOF perfectly because the woods in the background is beautiful enough to stand on its own, but your light and focus is on the canoeist (and rightfully so) and creates a wonderful foreground/background balance. The reflection is the icing on the cake. Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted February 27, 2010 Beautiful and interesting post-processing treatment - as a personal preference I would prefer to see more 'green'. best regards, Link to comment
jrickert 2 Posted February 27, 2010 Beautiful. I love the mood here. The canoeist is in color and the woods look more olive than I had thought they should. They look ominous -- in a good way. I really like it! How did you treat this photo to make it look this way? Could you share your secret, please? I just added this to my favorites :) Link to comment
David-Wisse 5 Posted February 27, 2010 Thanks Tim - I was pretty excited working with the light and color here. Appreciate your support as always. Tony - Thanks! The muted olive green of the trees and shoreline were important to me here, perhaps reflecting my admiration in the earth tones so often used by Homer and Wyeth in their paintings. Color is very subjective though! Janice - Thanks as well - This one took an hour and a half to process, believe it or not! Just too many steps to detail - don't mean to be obscure, but I don't think I could explain it clearly enough. I'm learning and experimenting myself, and my workflow is anything but precise and repeatable. Best to all - David Link to comment
human images 4 Posted February 27, 2010 beautifully done, smooth and stylish treatment. As Jeff says, more painting than photograph. And speaking of style, just check out the cool Canoeist; he owns the frame. Link to comment
David-Wisse 5 Posted February 28, 2010 Thanks much Carlos and Valentyn, (the cool canoeist liked the shot as well!). Take care, David Link to comment
3m 0 Posted March 1, 2010 I can only add to the many compliments before me, David... This is really a very stunning photo! I love how the light falls on the canoe & the canoeist, and the stillness that this picture evokes. The soft olive-green tones of the water & woods (which contrasts very nicely with the brighter green of the man's t-shirt imo) are perfectly done, I think. My compliments = a really great photo! ( & nice to see bigger:-) Kind regards, Marjolein Link to comment
