alfbailey 2 Posted February 20, 2010 This is the classic Derwent Water view point, but the normally straight landing stage had suffered storm damage, causing the "twist" in the structure, this along with the slippery frost on the boards, made for a precarious position for taking photographs, but when I managed to stop doing my "Scooby Doo" impression, (legs splayed in a vain attempt to stay upright) I managed to get this shot. Your thoughts and comments are always appreciated! Thank You. Link to comment
hstelljes 41 Posted February 20, 2010 Wonderful warm light hitting the wood and a pretty scenic background, what more could one ask for. I think you are a pretty lucky guy to have all these photographic opportunities around you. Take care. Best regards, Holger Link to comment
Funtak 0 Posted February 20, 2010 Excellent work, good timing, about going to the end of a pier, well, I am not so sure of it... Link to comment
ndj 0 Posted February 20, 2010 A beautiful spot Alf! Lovely light on the dock in the foreground, and the warped dock adds a new twist (sorry 'bout that) to the scene. Lovely, tranquil, image. All the best,Neil Link to comment
tibig 0 Posted February 20, 2010 Twisted indeed! The instability is well captured along with the beautiful light bringing out the textures of wood and ice. The "playing card symmetry" of the reflection is a neat twist too. Regards, Tibi Link to comment
Donna Stavis 0 Posted February 20, 2010 Beautiful colors and composition. I've seen several photographs of piers jutting out to sea or lake, but here, the poles and the way the light falls on them make it seem more like a gilded stage to walk out and enjoy a most serene spot of nature. I like the unevenness of the pier because of the contrast it makes against the landscape, sort of charming and clunky against pristine, glassy pool of water reflecting puffs of clouds, lovely sky, greens and browns of hills mirrored in the lake. pfranklin 0 Posted February 21, 2010 Ahhh... my friend .... if you had been wearing the right socks then the slippery dock would be no problem! ;) Great shot, love the warped wood and glassy water reflection. Did you sit and ponder life for awhile at the end of this dock...it looks like a lovely spot. Warm regards, Pamela Link to comment

The lake district in the UK has to be at the top of my favourite places, it is a place that has inspired writers and poets for decades, and even if I didn't get a single photo, just being there and experiencing the unique scenery and beauty is enough to make me want to stay, and when I get home and reflect upon the images I have captured, make me want to return.
