I am just cleaning house a little before things get rolling into spring. This was one from spring of 09 and I now feel it could have made the first cut. It was all primarily about the composition. The deadfall with flowers was my first choice, then I needed a mountain framed with trees and decorated with a low cloud. I wandered around for some time on this slope looking for the right elements to put it all together. Only a year later and I'm not sure I have as much energy to bushwhack across a mountain slope looking for the right setup, but no doubt when I am again at a similar location, I will be weedwhacking my way through the thicket. Thanks for your time!

Mark... Well, I'm glad you're whacked -- wait, I mean that you went whacking because this is definitely first cut material. It's such a pleasant, peaceful scene and you've transported us there. Excellent... Mike

Hi Mark, I enjoyed your beautiful landscape photo. There are several photos within this photo. The deadfall and flowers, the mountain, clouds and sky, so all together it makes for a great shot. well done. well worth the effort.

Thanks Mike , Paul and Patsy. Mike, you and my wife both know I am whacked. Well, I know it too, but I am proud of it, my wife is not so much. Yes, this has a few things going on. Luckily, all interconnected. I like the iconic deadfall with the flowers, sort of like a cycle of life I guess. Meanwhile, I should have mentioned the Larger view, but I thought verticals need not be mentioned. Well, it actually does, the Larger preview looks better than the slightly compressed web version!

Beautiful image. For me, what gives particular unity to the photo is the superposition of convex and concave arcs in the composition, formed by the shape of the deadwood, the curve of the forest and the dome of the mountain.

This is an excellent image! The foreground interest is very interesting and the blending of the greens have such wonderful tones not to mention the streak of clouds over the mountains. Really takes a good eye to have spotted this scene and present this finish product to us. Kind regards, Mark! - Lester

Lovely! FG interest is awesome, and a wonderful transition to the middle- and backgrounds. That quasi-lenticular cloud on top of Bear Mountain is superb, as is the lighting here. Well seen, and thanks for doing a bit-o-digging in the vaults for this image. Cheers! Chris

Wow, sometimes you just don't know. I initially didn't feel this was anything special. After tweaking the RAW and setting the points, it started to blossom. I guess I pointed the camera in this direction for a reason no less. Thanks PJ, Jon, Ovidiu, Lester and Chris! The response is a pleasant surprise. Chris, this is along the first pass on Caliente-Bodfish going north before dropping into the Walker Basin. I believe this is Oiler Peak, not Bear Mtn. It appears quite prominent, yet only tops out at about 4,500 feet. Back east, it would be a hellava mtn. By California standards, it's a foothill. This area will be remembered as my quick escape, a sanctuary if you will. You won't find many photographers up here. While I don't know why, it's just fine by me!

Wow indeed Mark. Looking at the thumbnail the image didn't seem to be too much but thank God for pleasant surprises. It borders on the spectacular and you have added elements within the composition such as the limbs in the foreground to stimulate visual impact. congrats, rek.

Great shot Mark! I really love the balance between the golden light in the distance and the yellow flowers in the foreground, great sense of scale and distance.

Interesting shot mark. How about taking care of that haze on the shadow side of the mountain. and up the shadows a bit?

Cheers

I have a question--

What the hell is Lalit talking about?  Huh?  Sheesh...

Don't do a bloody thing to this image at all.  Keep 'em coming, Amigo!

Cheers!  Chris
