I would say I like this color version slightly more than the B&W, but each has its own charm. Cheers, Vadim

Please count me in to the color crowd as well. This one has the fine balance between natural ambient and man-made lighting. Having seen your both versions I'd like to know whenever your B&W conversion was straight or done after color channels mixing?

Markku, I´m sorry, but am not sure whether I understand your question precisely or not, because I don´t know what exactly the "color channels mixing" means (I still so bad in PS terminology). The b/w conversion (as well as some other bw images in my portfolio) is done in PhotoFiltre (I like this software for b/w works particularly). I take an original color file, and for b/w conversion I am using hue/saturation adjestment - full desaturation (or saturation of -100%) and hue for +20...25 degrees. This is always my first step following by next relevant adjestments with levels etc.

Clor channel mixing, as I understand it, is adjustment of various colors in terms of brightness and saturation, something I believe you can do too, not just the overall saturation etc. All this to find out how the different colors turn to shades of grey to get it right, as you intend. Does your editing software allow use of adjustment layer(s) or does it adjust the pixel values directly? In later case you probably do copy the original to new layer to experiment and possible discard changes, or?

Thank you for the explanation, Markku. Ok, I see now. My software dosn´t allow to use adjustment layers, so I have to do a copy of the original.

I think this color version far outweighs the BW conversion. Obviously they are both close to the same frame...and you manage BW very well, but your color skills are to die for...in the way that you are a natural and have a certain uniqueness in color that shines and really highlights your eye and compositional sense.

The scene is one of those that are the most difficult to shoot because it has been done millions of times with the memorial in front and Notre Dame highlighting le Duc Arches (had he not added them, we might not have something like this to admirer anymore!), but this one has something special. The light is very good and the mixture of soft and sharp contrast carries the eye to the church towers. Well done Gunnar.
