ldavidson 4 Posted February 8, 2010 I came across this mother moose and her baby yesterday. As soon as I stopped the baby fled into the trees. The mother just stood there staring at me as if to say "any closer and I will have to hurt you." Any advice on how I could have made this a better picture would be appreciated. Thanks for looking. cowboy 0 Posted February 8, 2010 Moose my favorite animal. I see by the lens you were using that you were really close, or you were far away and you cropped the photo. If you cropped it and had more room on the right. I would suggest having momma moose in the left side of the photo. Because she's heading to the right, it would give her a opening to go to. Although the logs on the left are nice too. If you didn't have any extra room on the right to work, never mind, It's still a very nice photo. Link to comment
alfbailey 2 Posted February 8, 2010 I think Jeffs advice is spot on, and I have very little to add except, I really like the frosty foreground vegetation, and ...Your very brave! Great Shot! Regards Alf Link to comment
ndj 0 Posted February 9, 2010 Good shot Linda! I'd have to agree with the other fellas on the composition suggestions. The hoar frosted foregroung adds a real winter flavor. The moose breath is a nice touch too.All the best,Neil Link to comment

ldavidson 4 Posted February 9, 2010 Thanks so much for the advice. I took many shots of this big girl she just stood there staring at me. This is another shot that I thought wasn't as good as the one I posted but the placement and cropping is more as you suggested. What do you think? Link to comment

jeffl7 0 Posted February 10, 2010 I love the steam in her breath. If you're going to be traipsing around in the wild, antagonizing all the beasties, I hope you've got fast boots!!! Nicely handled both. I like the second version slightly more, although it seems less in vivo. Link to comment
cowboy 0 Posted February 10, 2010 I was looking at your landscape portfollio. I reconized ( we need spell check on this site) most of the shots you talken. I think we live in the same area, with in a couple hundred miles anyway. Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted February 10, 2010 Thank you all for commenting. JeffS, I tagged along with my husband and son on an ice fishing trip on the weekend. I rarely go, because it really is horrible, and I hate it. But they always rave about the wild life they see, this was what persuaded me to go. I got up at 5:00 am with them. I was wearing my husband's Arctic survival boots at his insistence. They must weigh 30 pounds each. My feet were warm, but I could barely walk let alone run. Jeff, I was thinking the same thing when looking at your portfolio. Best wishes, Linda Link to comment

llgarcia 1 Posted February 10, 2010 This is a lovely capture! With a 24-70mm lens, the opportunity to take this shot deserves all the credit. I can even see some haze around the moose's mouth and i presume you caught her breathing too. Great shot, Linda. Best regards! - Lester Link to comment

elportebonheur 0 Posted February 13, 2010 First and for all, congatulations that you had the opportunity to capture that wonderful animal. More crop or less crop is a question of personal taste I guess. For me both images are wonderful winter sceneries in nice natural colors. Compliments! Link to comment
