Very touching photo Birte. B&W is a good decision, i read your exchange with Mehmet and i think this works very well. In addition to focusing the attention on the expressions rather than the colors, B&W has a more documentary feel to it sometimes. Keep up the good work - michel

I started the day by having a wonderful refreshing shower....wrapped myself in a cosy robe....and as I sipped my hot cup of tea, I wondered what we would eat when we went to dinner for Valentine's Day. I even enjoyed a hearty dinner, then dessert..................yes life goes on while these poor souls suffer......and many others will have had a wonderful day also...........there are times I feel I should be so ashamed of the pleasures I enjoy. I look at this image and I feel sickened--with myself.

And these are only the children in India......besides all the impoverished countries...then there are the children in our own neighborhoods who go to school hungry....and those who are terrified to return home because of the 'monsters' who are 'in wait' for them. They do exist.....every minute of every day, behind closed doors. I've lived in neighborhoods where children have been discovered who will never be whole again. If they survive without taking their own lives first...it will truly be a miracle. Your images are difficult to look at Birte....because they make us feel uncomfortable.....guilty of what we so not want to give up....Keep up the good work......'defender of the helpless'...........sincerely, Gail

Captivating eyes... It's like having a conversation with the kid, with curiosity and compassion to know her story behind :). Great work!

This appeared in the Daily Samplings, and I immediately had a hunch that this would have your name on it.  This is so poignant, and the B&W tones are marvelous.  As always, outstanding work.
