gsphotoguy 3 Posted February 28, 2010 While I was changing rolls of film Jordana decided to lay down and relax for a minute. I liked th eway the natural light played over her body and made a few photographs. Link to comment

jerrymat 4 Posted March 1, 2010 Mark, I have looked at other of your images and especially like the cast shadows. You have me confused about liking the way the light plays over the model here. To my way of thinking the bright contrast looks harsh, hitting the face and arm and breast awkwardly. The hair is shadowed and loses texture, the eye sockets are dark and the bright spot on the arm intersects with the photo edge. Jerry Link to comment
John Peri 1,029 Posted March 1, 2010 I am always interested to read Jerry's comments. He has a deep understanding of the art of photography and he is very disciplined in his approach. Where I do not always agree is with the more emotional interpretation of an image. Sure the light is unusual, but isn't it that precisely what sets the mood for this picture? Personally, I like the somewhat dramatic effect produced that accentuates the frown and look of concern, anticipation, of the model. The other day on PN I saw a portrait of a young kid illuminated from below, a crazy thing to do with the portrait of a child. Yet, when I looked closer, I realized that the dramatic, Haloween-like effect produced could not have been obtained otherwise .. in conclusion, I think it is good to do things "differently" sometimes and experiment with the result, especially to catch "moments" such as the one above. Best wishes, John Link to comment
gsphotoguy 3 Posted March 1, 2010 Jerry - Thank you for taking the time to comment on this image. In a perfect world Jordana would have rested in a position where the light fell better but this was a moment captured, in a way a snapshot, that I felt had some visual interest. There are some little elements like the shadow of her nipple on her arm that have some of that interest to me. John - Thank you too for your comments. As you noted, this is certainly not a technically good photograph but I think it has some of the feelings you got from it. Like you, I like capturing the moments between the good takes. Sometimes they wind up surprising me in a good way. -Mark Link to comment
