Dick... He seems to be watching you; perhaps to see if you're filling the feeder :-)... As always an excellent bird shot... Mike

Thanks, Mike! I think you're probably right:-) These guys will fly to the feeder while I'm holding it.

Have a good night!

A wonderful image - well done 6/6. The bokeh and color of the background compliments the color of the bird. I love the ice and the texture of the bark. As a personal preference, I might have darkened the bark on the right side and adjusted the focus ever so slightly so that the eye and the 'fur' of the bird is just a bit crisper. These are very minor points on an image that is very appealing. Please don't shoot the messenger. Best regards,

Tony, so good to hear from you! And your comments are right on target as usual. As you know it is very tough to get a good crisp focus on a bird that is facing the camera. So, in this case the feet are better than the beak, even at f8, which is the sweet spot of the 80-400mm zoom. I looked at this a long time before I decided to put it up.

I have been very busy with this health care debate in the US. So my time on PN has been limited. But, on the weekends I have managed to sneak out and sit behind my tripod, trying to catch a few shots of these fast little birds. It is great fun and relaxing to concentrate on something else.

My best to you!

I am happy you posted it so that I can appreciate this fine image. I don't remember but I think the D300 has an eye recognition algorithm in its auto focus and it is debatable whether you should focus manually or enable continuous auto focus. I have been following the health debate down there periodically and I am very grateful for the Canadian system - not perfect but I would not trade it.

Good luck!

Little different angle on the bird, but it is appealing. Shows movement and also you have a nice bg and fg.

The energizer bunny bird. They never sit still.Nice shot Richard I think your focus point is a bit behind the birds eye.I it is always important to have sharp eyes (In my opinion) I hope you dont mind my honest opinion.

Thank you, Monte and Chris! I agree with you Chris, don't mind at all. I like the pose, but I wish the eye were more crisp.

Have a good weekend,

Dick
