The veil of clouds created a special light that seem to texturize this snowy blanket among the oaks. Because of the backlighting, I chose to blend a darker sky onto a brighter foreground so I could reveal the plastered snow on the trees and avoid them going to near silhouette. Meanwhile, I wanted the sky to retain some drama. That oak on the right does not look like it could exist much longer before toppling. I would be interested in your thought or suggestions!

This is quite an exquisite image, the combination of the smooth white ground and the dark forms of the trees is delightful.

I might have been tempted to get even more contrast in the clouds, but overall I like it lots.

Thanks Peter. Well, I could probably get more contrast from the sky, but I am lately executing more restraint. I want my images to look surreal, but not fall into the unreal. I also feel that when printed, that sky will look darker, so I will probably stick to my guns. I appreciate the suggestion no less, however!

Hi Mark, this is splendid and dramatic photo, the trees stand out dramatically against the clouds. I 've seen your portfolio briefly and it looks impressive.

Also thank you for your nice comment at my photo of La Puna. The area is breathtaking! Feel free to visit our website with phototravels to the puna, also when you only search for inspiration :-) We can also provide you some information and tips for preparing.

cheers, Hans
