guillelobera 0 Posted January 27, 2010 The Big Wild Goose Pagoda (Da Yan Tower) is located within the premises of the Temple of Great Maternal Grace (Da Ci'en Temple) in Xi'an. This magnificent pagoda is located in the southern suburb of Xian City, about 4 kilometers from the downtown and it is regarded by many as a symbol of Xian. The pagoda, built in 652 A.D, is a square pyramid (64 meters high) of brick. It is simple in shape, and of good and lofty proportion. Legend has it that the temple was built by Emperor Tang Gaozong to honor his mother, Empress Wende. The Temple is also said to have been built to house and protect Buddhist scriptures collected in India by Chinese monk, Xuan Zang. Link to comment
