paolo de faveri 1 Posted January 11, 2010 The main attraction of the French department of Ardeche is certainly the Ardeche river and its gorges, which are actually a wonderful canyon - 35 kms long and 250 meters deep - the river dug for million years in a limestone plateau. The part of the gorges displayed in this picture is placed at about half lenght of the canyon and its main feature is the rock formation you can see on the left, know as "La Cathédrale" for its vertical, sharp "spires". Just to give you a sense of scale of this scene, the Cathedral is about 80 meters tall, and I took this from a natural balcony about 200 mts above the river. The slice of sky reflected in the river is so sharp and striking, that it almost looks like a rift in the Earth that let you look out to the other side of the planet. Here's where the title come from. I know it might look overdone or even fake to someone, but actually this is how it came out by just rotating the polarizer to its maximum effect. Your C&C are as always highly appreciated, thanks in advance for your time. Details: Eos 50D, Zeiss Distagon *T 28mm f2,8, polarizer, tripod. This is - as usual - a stitch of four verticals, please have a look at the larger image size for better details. Link to comment

gardena 0 Posted January 12, 2010 It really does seem as if you can look through the bottom of the river to the sky in the southern hemisphere (where it is summer now). Very innovative! Link to comment
