mbh 0 Posted January 11, 2010 Excellent portrait, showing the curiosity and innocence of this young child. Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted January 11, 2010 Sharp eyes, successful picture. And the eyes here are sharp. Nicely done. Had you considered a white background for a high key look? I'd like to know what your lighting setup was. Best, LM. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted January 12, 2010 This was a makeshift studio, at my son & DIL's house in Canada. We hung a black curtain behind the model, with it draped over a baby chair. I had my flash bounced at the ceiling - that was it! It worked fairly well and I took pictures of most of the grandkids. It would take some work to do this high-key, but maybe I'll try it. Thanks for your comments, everyone. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted January 12, 2010 Here's an unedited view so you can kind of get an idea of the set-up - not very elaborate! Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted January 12, 2010 A student of the 'Keep It Simple School', huh? Sometimes the obvious escapes us. Glad I asked about it; I'll try it next shoot. Thanks for the tip. Best, LM. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted January 13, 2010 I have a monopod with feet and that's what the flash was attached to. I then pointed it straight up at the ceiling. Makes for decent lighting, I think. I've had to really learn flash photography since joining Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep as we can't take elaborate set-ups into hospital settings. I practised on a doll until I felt really comfortable. donnaalbers 0 Posted January 20, 2010 Hi Kim, i love both versions of your lovely granddaughter. I must say I am very impressed with the b&w conversion. The tones are superb. You have done a masterful job with the lighting (thanks for the tips) and the capture of her expression and the twinkle in her eyes. This is a great portrait. Link to comment
