anthea50 24 Posted January 8, 2010 Your collage is a good first try, but IMHO it’s too cluttered, which limits the ability of the eye to ‘see’ all the beautiful images properly. Ok, the eye is drawn nicely around the centre most images (by the similar colours) but the images at the edges (with the exception of the bird with your name above it – because of the composition) are different in colour and composition (sizes of the subject) to be seen as part of the whole, especially on the bottom right of the collage, where you can’t even see what the subject is. Remember that once you resize an image, some of the detail (which can clearly be seen in editing software, and, that you know is there but the viewer doesn’t) can be lost due to limitations of monitor size etc. I would pick images more similar in subject size and colour and play with them, and try reducing the number to nine or ten. If you can, try adding a very thin frame to each images as well, and moving the angle around on some too, i.e. not all lined up a row (boring). Oh and also, for images that ‘sit’ on top of others, adding a slight drop shadow is an effective way to show depth that the eye naturally expects because of the perception that one image is further forward in dimension that the ones underneath it. From your portfolio I can see that you have an excellent eye for composition and have already acquired some strong skills in photography, my opinion would be that you should show them off to their best advantage with this collage. Good luck! Link to comment
fischerphotos 0 Posted January 9, 2010 Kim: No it's just a little project for fun. I just finished my second book in December so it's going to be about a year before the next one. Anthea: Thank you for your comments. It is a little buisy, but it was just a little project I did because of boredom. Thanks! Link to comment
