The first week of January, I toured around many areas in the Oregon deserts and mountains with Floris Van Breugel. Our second day out I decided we should head for the Painted Hills, after we'd spent the morning shooting a new snow in Ponderosa forests. By the afternoon, I knew the sun would take its toll on the 2 inches of new powder, and provide us with some interesting abstract opportunities once the colorful hills started to reveal themselves from under the fresh white blanket. This might be my favorite rendition, but there were just too many to choose from.

Just beautiful, Adam, some great colours here.

You have a great eye and you know well your country.

All the best!

Yes, I have been fan of your landscapes, that brings me back over and over again to your portfolio. So this one had to catch the eye after I saw this, and brought me to find out what Marc has been up to here :-)

and this is purely honest comment...

,,and this picture really tricked me. I think this was totally due to such a wonderful rendition of this abstract nature of the landscape. While this being one of my most favorite places and also being there, I should have recognized this immediately. But the play of orange, red, yellow, white and blue shades completely overcome the viewing senses. Great placement in the abstract again and processing to keep the contrast optimal so this image focuses on the main intentions of showing the abstract nature and does not get carried away in the landscape part of it.

Best,

Marc,, Fantastic capture!! I love the color tones. I looked at this image for a long time trying to figure out what you shot to compose it.. I'm a big fan of your work and I knew that it had to be landscape related. Well, I had to give up and read your posting. After reading it, it makes the shot even more amazing. I'm still having a hard time determining if what I'm seeing is a close up shot, or the hills from a distance. Thanks for sharing your image.

Terrific abstract landscape. This type of photography helps round out any landscape portfolio, and seems often to produce works no less evocative than the classic grand views that are usually more popular. I like how the diametric color scheme artfully echoes the textural juxtaposition of smooth curves versus blocky lines in this capture. The overall effect is singular and very pleasing.

These colors and patterns really are striking. The scale is not evident, and someone unfamiliar with the area would never guess that they're looking at a hillside (especially with the cross-hatching of red and gold showing).

The colors and shapes are inspiring! Great shot!

I love the blue shadows. Did you shift the white-balance to achieve this?
