birteragland 1 Posted January 4, 2010 Some half a million kids live on the streets of New Delhi and work as child labourers. Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted January 4, 2010 Birte, unfortunately it is true and grim reality. It is a crisis of values and human apathy, not only India but also all over the world, more & less. Link to comment

birteragland 1 Posted January 4, 2010 Yes its true its all over the world. But the fact is that India has 63% of all the worlds poorest people.I have been many places around the world, but this experience was the one that has moved me the most to date.So much so that we are going back in February to try to help a few of the communities. 3m 0 Posted January 4, 2010 What a powerful and moving picture this is, Birte! It really makes me stop and think & I thank you for that. I imagine that it must have been difficult and emotional for you being there, taking his picture. I sincerely hope that 2010 will bring around much needed change. pfranklin 0 Posted January 4, 2010 This is an all too familiar scene not only in India; it’s a global problem. I realize that there is a larger population of “poor” in this country (India) however even here in the US, especially some of the southern states where so many incomes are lower than eleven thousand dollars per year, considerably less than what is considered poverty level and impossible to live on except in exterme conditions such as the street. These people (so many children) live in shacks (the lucky ones) where the elements are brutal, no heat or water, no schools or medical aid and the world has seen fit to forget them as well. I am not scolding you for your photo and information; I just wish that we would all remember how fortunate we are to not be in these circumstances ourselves and give of our own as you are doing. Thank you for sharing and bless you for your kind heart. Best regards, Pamela Link to comment

GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted January 4, 2010 Thankyou for commenting on my New Years shot......are you home now??? I didn't forget you...was not sure if you would be back yet....but should have looked to see if you had posted. This however unfortunate, is a great shot.....it's greatest 'statement' is that it will reach out and communicate to others the lost, lonely, hungry, impoverished and downtrodden......so many that occupy our earth....yet it must be so prominent in India. The expression on this poor soul's face truly is of loss, despair, and 'disconnection'.....no sign of life.....no hope.........just 'existing'..... so sad Birte......thankyou so much for sharing....for making us think and truly feel the compassion that on many days does not even enter our minds....we have them so 'full' of other insignificant thoughts..... jhl 0 Posted January 5, 2010 Quite right that this will be a reality check for many people all over the Planet. South Africa for instance that used to be a flourishing rich country has decayed and dragged it's poorer citizens along with the decay. Unfortunately, when people visit countries they only get taken by the "Tour Companies & Guides" to the "Upper class" areas so that the decay is not seen.Twenty years ago we used to have the Rich,Middle Class & Poor - Now, it's either Rich,Poor or very Poor - Who are to blame ? I would certainly blame all Governments - They need to get their act together - Anothing factor would be OVER POPULATION on our Planet with families not coping so they just abandon their children. So sad. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us all - Warmest Regards - Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted January 8, 2010 Birte, this is a heartbreaking image. The expression on his face is one of hopelessness. Your title is perfect and thank you for reminding us this tragedy in the world. Best wishes. Link to comment
