billsymmons 0 Posted December 30, 2009 Hi John Very nice, soft feel to this one. It matches the model's pose and expression well. Looks like you are opening up your aperture a bit more than usual! Nice effect. All my best and happy new year. Bill Link to comment
sv solomon photography 0 Posted December 31, 2009 are defined very nicely in this image. That is what tells me that your lighting is perfect. Not too much shadow and not over exposed. The pose is good, except that her positioning/ your shooting angle with respect to the background is off a bit. Even though the depth of field is kept at a shallow perspective, her right breast is lost against the pillow behind it. You should keep this in mind when considering B & W conversions. A color rendition may not be so diluted. She is very shapely and if you were to have held her against a totally dark background, you would have enhanced the definition of her curves. Please don't interpret this too harshly. I really do like the image and find the lighting stylish and sort of retro in comparison to your typical work. Your model is beautiful and this is a wonderful photo of her! Nice job! Steve Link to comment
John Peri 1,029 Posted December 31, 2009 Many thanks for the detailed critique Steve. That pillow is a nuisance, even though the focus is on the body, but I missed out on the expression after it was removed. I guess I often tend to favour the moment rather than the setup, even if ideally one would benefit from both. In those terms I would say that my work is closer to backstage recording than it is to a more studio-type thought out approach, but I appreciate how important it's perception is by others, thank you once again. In terms of what I said, if wonder if I would not compare this image with the street portrait of yours that I critiqued recently in which the delicate intimacy of the moment seized seems so much more important than the composition. Very best wishes, John Link to comment
bradkim 8 Posted January 2, 2010 My congratulations on this beautiful shot, John! I like your opening up the aperture, resulting in the blurred background. Lovely work! Link to comment
chiwaz 1 Posted January 22, 2010 Her expression is so intense that denies her nakedness. She looks frail and adamantine at the same time. I almost find it difficult to turn away from her gaze. You really captured one exceptional moment. Link to comment
