With some creative rotation and vertical cropping this image could become very strong and effectively portray the bleakness of late fall. I rotated it about 45º CCW and cropped it vertically. Now the the branches form a perfect V, leading your eyes right to the solitary leaf. The image quality suffers a little bit because of the fairly large crop, but I still think you get the idea.
