mozgur 0 Posted December 21, 2009 I find narrow canyons difficult to work. Partly because of very limited viewpoints, also because difficult light conditions. I was twice at this location, this is the best view I could find. not sure I'll have another chance anytime soon. I hope that tree survives the savage winter of the land. Enjoy life. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted December 22, 2009 Is this a composite? I can't tell. Nevertheless, it is certainly a fantastical image. I think the shadows have been boosted a bit much giving it a slight cartoonish look, but perhaps that was the look you were after? Hmm, as an original image... not sure. But as a piece of art... very eye catching. Link to comment

mozgur 0 Posted December 22, 2009 Everything seen here in "real" shadow, so there is nothing fancy is done to enhance it. Obviously the sky was exposed separately to bring in the detail. Standard 0.6 or 0.9GND filter would have done the job as well. Link to comment
stp 6 Posted December 22, 2009 My recommendation, which is usually an outlier, is to preserve some of the "difficult lighting" so that there is more variation of light in the photograph. Otherwise, the lighting is too uniform and therefore somewhat flat. Varying tones can add a lot, and I personally am not disappointed if some portions of a photograph are largely hidden in very deep shadows. I love the composition here, and I think an increased range of contrast would be beneficial. Link to comment
