Thank you gentlemen! Well, it looks from the ratings that most people like this one. The lighting conditions were perfect for Velvia; rainy and overcast. Regards.

Thanks Colton. Considering I had to struggle with an umbrella and a rain cover on the camera I felt that this one worked out okay too. Regards.

I saw this picture and realized that it looks familiar. I was there this summer and it was raining when I was at the falls as well (probably a good bet most of the time). It is a great spot and you captured it beautifully.

For a (only very slightly) different take, see:

I've got two teenage daughters and they loved the entire Forks area. It really brought the books to life.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks Michael! Yes, I can imagine two Twilight Fans at Forks...it must have been a real treat for them. I have to admit that I was ignorant of the phenomena, but my wife quickly filled me in. There is a little diner on the road to Second Beach that serves outrageously delicious Werewolf Burgers...really yummy! They got me hooked.

I have a second image of this subject that I took from higher up the path, probably very near to the viewpoint of yours. I thought the composition was better than this one but I did not care for the log jutting out from the top of the falls. In my image it was at an acute angle and too much of a distraction. In this image I do not think it is much of a problem since it serves, along with the lower logs, to frame the falls. Regards.

Merry Christmas and thank you so much for that eloquently phrased sentiment! I wish All the Best to you and yours as well. Regards.

I remember Marymere Falls and how TALL it was. I see you pulled the super wide angle. It almost looks small now! I like the abstract in the lower left corner.

I still don't know how you pull this much shadow detail from Velvia. I remember how difficult this scene is to shoot in terms of contrast.

Nice to see the results from your trip!

Dave, trust me man, I have no secret formula for Velvia. The lighting conditions for this shot, a constant drizzle and overcast sky, were "food" for that stuff. The high contrast characteristic of the emulsion really paid off in this case.

If I would have gone to my 55mm lens instead of the 45 the falls would have had more impressive proportions. Problem was, however, that I would have had to back off and there was no room to do so. This would have been a good opportunity to have someone standing back there to give some sense of scale; those fallen timbers are really huge hunks. My plan is to print this really big so that one gets a proper feeling for the place.

I have more shots in the rain forest under these conditions. Hopefully, I can get to them before too long. I like the "Green Goblin" in the lower left too. Have a great New Year buddy! Regards.
