Another wonderful addition to your Sophia collection - I love the colors and textures you used, but the expression on her face just can't be beat - it is really just lovely all the way around - a 7/7 in my book, (as are many others in this series) Thanks for sharing it with us-

Sophia is a cutie with a great smile and an obvious vivacious personality. The composition is very good for a horizontal portrait. The background is nicely out of focus.

 

To help separate her from the background it would be good to have a backlight on her right side.

 

It is quite usual for a vertical subject to be shot in a vertical format. Sometimes the pose makes for a horizontal format. If there was something in the background that contributed to the subject than it would be good to include it. That would make a horizontal format appropriate. Neither is the case here.

 

Notice that having her left arm stretched out to the side of her body drops her left shoulder and makes her right shoulder look high in comparison. Bringing her left arm to her side would balance her shoulders.

 

Her skin tone is good (a little yellow in spots). There is an overall yellow/orange cast to the image.

 

Even though she is young, I wouldn't pose her straight on to the camera. This is not a very feminine pose. Showing your subject’s widest areas (shoulder to shoulder or hip to hip) makes those areas appear wide. Your subject will appear thinner, more feminine and more graceful if turned at an angle to the camera. The lines you see from an angle have more apparent motion, interest and grace. She is a very feminine looking girl and I would want to pose her that way.

 

It's a little thing, but I would have her left shoulder strap on top of her shoulder to match the other strap.

Gorgeous shot, Amy. I love the copper/warm tones. The spots of lights behind her are like bunches of thought bubbles. Judging by her expression, she has many! The slipped strap gives more coyness and motion. The treatment works great. Beautiful work...

Thank you, everyone, for your comments. I'm honored that so many of my favorite photographers take the time to stop by and help me improve my work. I agree with you, Mark C., about the yellow spots on her skin. I didn't remove the texture completely in some areas and now that you mentioned it she does look a little jaundiced in some spots.
