The "Sierra Wave" above the Buttermilk Hills near Bishop, California. This was a grab shot that fell short in color, but in black and white, the sky still had enough variation in tone. As my sister and I walked into this area away from the car, we could hear dogs barking from a nearby resident's home. I saw a fence, so assumed it was safe. Within moments, two large barking dogs were running right up to my sister. I am of the school that believes if you don't show fear, you will be OK. I don't think my sister is from the same school, however, and began to freak. Luckily, the dogs were just barking and once they were right up to her, turned back away. Meanwhile, I managed a few shots that I could blend so there would be some useful detail in the foreground to compliment the sky. Let me know your thoughts!

It is a 'doggone' good shot! Nicely balanced, and a good tonal range to boot. Just needs a big old rock in the FG...or a dog. [Just kiddin'] Well done, Amigo! Cheers! Chris

Hey Chris, thanks for the comment. Boy, this is one that got away. We were at the top of the canyon right below Lake Sabrina when I saw the possibility of a good light show, but we were in the wrong place. I decide to ditch our current vantage for a better one that was about 10 miles down the road. Just as we arrived the light faded. Even though the colors were becoming muted, the delineation of the clouds was still apparent, so I composed the best I had going for me; a couple of boulder piles with some brush in the near foreground. I look forward to a day where I can scout all of my images in advance (just dreaming LOL).

Those clouds look familiar, and you found a good FG to show them off. I had the same problem with mine. It was unbalanced in colour but B&W sorted it out. Those rocks and bushes look worthy of further visits s long as you can sort out the dogs.
