jayanti 0 Posted November 24, 2009 A very humane representation. Nice colors and composition. Thank you for your visit to my 'smile' and best wishes. Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted November 24, 2009 David... Spectacular, but I have to ask, is this from this year? If it is, y'all sure did get cold fast! Without the beach on the right to anchor the perspective, I could easily visualize this as a view over the Alps or similar mountain range. A wonderful play on depth here and, of course, Hans just fits right in... Mike Link to comment
blue-olympus 0 Posted November 24, 2009 Terrific shot with spectacular views of the ice field and the dog adding so much interest to the scene...Regards Link to comment

David-Wisse 5 Posted November 24, 2009 Jayanti, Mike, Keith, & Patsy - So good of you to visit, and thanks very much for your comments. Mike - This shot was made last spring - just as the ice was beginning to go out. I am so pleased you recognized the dog as Hans - most people can't tell 'em apart! Best wishes to all - David. timzeipekis 5 Posted November 25, 2009 This is awesome! Your dog creates great visual interest and scale and I am impressed with that buildup on the lake. What a terrific arctic landscape. That sky really cooperated with the composition didn't it, beautiful! Link to comment
Emmanuel Enyinwa 0 Posted November 25, 2009 I wonder what is going through this mutt's limited cranium as he stares at this vast expanse, probably something along the lines of, "much as I love this dullard with the stick, if he throws it clear across that lake, I certainly shall NOT wade that freezing water after it". David-Wisse 5 Posted November 25, 2009 Tim - Thanks! It was truly a special eveing at Lake Michigan - rare as you know in winter here. Emmanuel - LOL! Hans is just numb-skulled enough to go chase that stick . . . Link to comment
richardthompson 0 Posted November 26, 2009 An arresting sight beautiful enough to stop a dog cold in his tracks. Wonderfully composed and framed in wide, David. Have a happy Thanksgiving! Link to comment
trisha jean-angela 3 Posted November 26, 2009 Beautiful image David! The colors are majestic and Hans looks like the king of his domain! Just lovely! :) Link to comment

david_l._forney 0 Posted November 28, 2009 Beautiful image, David. Makes me wonder what he is looking at. The sun so low in the sky helps create a very dramatic image of this very cold place. David Link to comment
David-Wisse 5 Posted November 29, 2009 Thanks very much Radu & David. David, I think Hans is just looking for trouble here - par for the course with him! Best, David Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted November 29, 2009 It's hard to fathom how important that red collar is. A stunning capture. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted November 29, 2009 It is a must to look at the enlarged version, it is so good, wonderful vast space , detailed , and well lighted /shadowed landscape, The dog with the red point of his collar is a great contrast and addition to the whole. I like as well the contrast of sky form that looks like a gusty " arrrow" arriving from the L and the silence of the snowy and water part which me and the dog are admiring..;-)) Link to comment
dirk_juergensen 0 Posted November 29, 2009 David, I'd love to go with you on tour and look over your shoulder and learn how to compose such beautiful dog portraits. Back home I would try all this with Eddi :-) Link to comment
David-Wisse 5 Posted November 30, 2009 Jeff - Thanks! You're right that red collar really helps to focus on the dog's head. Pnina - Thanks for your studied critique! I love it when viewers look this closely. Dirk - Perhaps you should visit Michigan with Eddi - we'll have a fine time photographing dogs and landscapes! Thanks for your continued support. 3m 0 Posted November 30, 2009 David, I just made the picture bigger to take it in more, and I have to really congratulate you on this one. It is truly beautiful!!! The composition with your dog at the edge there, the sky and the light... it's very - very nice!!! (I wonder if you had to wear heavy gloves when you took this picture though--which must be hard I imagine, to handle a camera--it looks so very cold?) Congratulations! & Kind regards, Marjolein Link to comment
rekaras 0 Posted November 30, 2009 wonderful image full of light and shadow and meaning with the dog standing over the water. The sky is a bit busy but so be it. cromwell1664877587 0 Posted December 1, 2009 Very impressive shot, David. I was ignorant that such scenes existed on Lake Michigan until now. Link to comment
David-Wisse 5 Posted December 1, 2009 Thanks Scott. We had an exceptionally cold & snowy winter last year. Made for some great photo ops. Link to comment
steve_wagner1 1 Posted December 30, 2009 David this is great but would be much better with a natural treatment. We all know instinctively that a natural landscape could never look like this in terms of light, tone, or color. Sorry, just trying to be helpful. Link to comment
