A very humane representation. Nice colors and composition. Thank you for your visit to my 'smile' and best wishes.

David... Spectacular, but I have to ask, is this from this year? If it is, y'all sure did get cold fast! Without the beach on the right to anchor the perspective, I could easily visualize this as a view over the Alps or similar mountain range. A wonderful play on depth here and, of course, Hans just fits right in... Mike

Jayanti, Mike, Keith, & Patsy - So good of you to visit, and thanks very much for your comments.

Mike - This shot was made last spring - just as the ice was beginning to go out. I am so pleased you recognized the dog as Hans - most people can't tell 'em apart!

Best wishes to all - David.

This is awesome! Your dog creates great visual interest and scale and I am impressed with that buildup on the lake. What a terrific arctic landscape. That sky really cooperated with the composition didn't it, beautiful!

I wonder what is going through this mutt's limited cranium as he stares at this vast expanse, probably something along the lines of, "much as I love this dullard with the stick, if he throws it clear across that lake, I certainly shall NOT wade that freezing water after it".

Tim - Thanks! It was truly a special eveing at Lake Michigan - rare as you know in winter here.

Emmanuel - LOL! Hans is just numb-skulled enough to go chase that stick . . .

An arresting sight beautiful enough to stop a dog cold in his tracks. Wonderfully composed and framed in wide, David. Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Beautiful image, David. Makes me wonder what he is looking at. The sun so low in the sky helps create a very dramatic image of this very cold place. David

Thanks very much Radu & David. David, I think Hans is just looking for trouble here - par for the course with him!

It is a must to look at the enlarged version, it is so good, wonderful vast space , detailed , and well lighted /shadowed landscape, The dog with the red point of his collar is a great contrast and addition to the whole. I like as well the contrast of sky form that looks like a gusty " arrrow" arriving from the L and the silence of the snowy and water part which me and the dog are admiring..;-))

David, I'd love to go with you on tour and look over your shoulder and learn how to compose such beautiful dog portraits. Back home I would try all this with Eddi :-)

Jeff - Thanks! You're right that red collar really helps to focus on the dog's head.

Pnina - Thanks for your studied critique! I love it when viewers look this closely.

Dirk - Perhaps you should visit Michigan with Eddi - we'll have a fine time photographing dogs and landscapes! Thanks for your continued support.

David, I just made the picture bigger to take it in more, and I have to really congratulate you on this one. It is truly beautiful!!! The composition with your dog at the edge there, the sky and the light... it's very - very nice!!!

(I wonder if you had to wear heavy gloves when you took this picture though--which must be hard I imagine, to handle a camera--it looks so very cold?) Congratulations! & Kind regards, Marjolein

Marjolein - Thank you very much - it helps to have warm gloves!

Richard - Thanks for your visit and comments.

David this is great but would be much better with a natural treatment. We all know instinctively that a natural landscape could never look like this in terms of light, tone, or color. Sorry, just trying to be helpful.
