High up in the Shiwapuri National Park there are some Tamang

settlements surrounded by forests. There is no road and they need to

walk several hours to reach the Kathmandu Valley. For me this photo

explains all the warm feelings I have for these people. I will ask my

friend and guide Janga to bring them a print of this photo. Thanks for

comments and rating. Karl

A very good image which i am enjoying. Well framed, excellent clarity, separation of the hair from the background is appreciated. both seem very relaxed and at ease with the photographer. Suspect fill flash was used which adds value and does not detract from the natural light. The only nit is the color balance of the child's face compared with the skin on the leg. Could this because of an overhead incandescent light? In any event, it is a tiny nit in my eyes on a very good image. Well done.

Dear Tony, thanks for your excellent observation and useful comment. In fact this photo was shot at the recessed doorstep of their house, under a covered vestibule. I did not have fill flash and there was no electric lamp. In the original photo the upper part is quite darker and the lower part is brighter than in this picture. The difference of the colour tone between the face and the legs of the boy is a result of the adjustment of the brightness. I will see what I can do. Thanks for making me aware of this flaw. Karl

I would not describe it as a flaw - more of a nit. Instead of saying 'great shot' and moving on I thought I would do a bit more. My thinking about the fill flash was because of the little highlights in their eyes, the bracelet and the bottom left thread but this could be caused by a bright source of light other than the flash. Please be assured that this is a fine shot and hope I have not gone overboard in my comment.

After Tony's comment, all I can say is that I like this a lot. there is a definite look of warmth and trust in both faces. They seem very much at ease with you which has produced an excellent shot.
