This is an awesome photograph and of a subject style that I am not used to seeing by you. Excellent work, keep it up!

Thanks Shawn! It was a unique opportunity--a great subject (my sister) and an amazing lighting situation (at brunch in a local restaurant.) I think I see Fred Goldsmith's influence in terms of treatment.

My ears must have been buzzing!

Saw this in the critique queue and was happy to open it up and see that it was from you. The low key treatment certainly doesn't dampen the very true expression you captured here. I actually think the placement of her face in the frame and the expression itself speak so incredibly well for themselves. There's a real sense that something significant is afoot. It's a somewhat mysterious expression, leading the viewer wherever it will take him. It's strong enough yet open enough to various interpretations to be extremely compelling. Even with the darker treatment, you've preserved enough detail in the hair and shirt so that my interest doesn't drop off at any point. Nicely done.

Wonderful that you saw this, Fred, and I really appreciated your comments. I was fortunate not only in the light but in the subject: a wonderfully interesting and expressive face and, with a background in dance performance, a willingness to forgo vanity for art.
