Ricardo,

Claudia is a pretty girl. You have focused quite well on her eyes. She has good eye contact with the camera (viewer). The background is nicely out of focus which helps center attention on Claudia. Her skin tone is good (perhaps a little reddish in spots).

Even though she is in shade, it appears that she is squinting. I wish her eyes were more open so that I could see them. That might allow you to have catch lights in them to give them some life. Her expression also looks like the brightness might be bothering her. The sun is coming from behind her which lights her hair to help separate her from the background, but there is spill on her shoulder, wrist and cheek.

Avoid having the flat of the hand towards the camera. The edge (side) of the hand towards the camera is thinning, feminine and graceful.

Her hand does look quite large. This may be partially do to foreshortening. Watch for anything closer to the camera than the body. If in front of the body her feet, knees, hands, elbows and shoulders will look out of proportion to the rest of the body -- larger than normal -- foreshortened. You have to be very careful of shooting a close-up of the face with a lens shorter than about 110 mm (film or FX digital) or 170 mm (DX digital). Shorter lenses can make the nose appear excessively large. I thought I would include this information, but I wouldn't say her nose looks out of proportion to her face.

You want to compositionally balance the left and right sides of the photograph. The compositional "rule" for this suggests that you position the tip of the subject's nose in the vertical center of the photograph.

I think her expression, the squinting of her eyes and the lines under her eyes would improve if she was looking at a dark area behind you or if you were in a shaded area. She must be looking at something very bright for it to bother her that much.

I would retouch any imperfections on her face and not show her hands that close to the camera. Her make-up is not bad, but I would have her apply more mascara and make sure she separates the hairs on her eyelashes. A little eyeliner under her eyes would help make her eyes stand out. I would like to see her lipstick reapplied or a lipgloss used to add a little more shine to her lips.

The lighting on her face is quite flat. Judicious use of shadows on her face can help create interest and the illusion of depth within your photograph. I think a hair brush may be in order and the sunglasses on her head is not exactly a fashion statement.

She is a very pretty girl and you want to allow her natural beauty to be observed.

Nice shot,

Mark
