Comments, ratings, appreciated on this desaturated black and white

image. I like the shot (color version is also in the folder) better

than the color one. I like the size of the ball, the two small lights,

and the Chinese building in the background. Thanks.

Lighting on "The Great Ball" is very nicely done. Based on the appearance of the sky and the direction of the light on the ball, it looks like the lighting is not natural (confirm?). Overall, it is an interesting graphical composition, for me.

This photo really does a lot with a little. From afar it looks like the sphere is on the same scale as the house, a globe or map of the earth. Getting closer it looks a lot smaller, about the same scale as the lights behind, but it is still ambiguous because it doesn't appear to be glass and is on a pedestal. I think it's this type of ambiguity that makes for one type of truly great photo. Partakes of the surrealist technique of "defamiliarization of the familiar" in a way.
