Guest Guest Posted November 5, 2009 Jerry, Beautiful girls! You have focused well on their eyes. They have good eye contact with the camera (viewer). They have good catch lights. Their skin tones are very good as is the lighting. Even though the background is somewhat busy, it is well out of focus and the girls are nicely separated from it. I would like to see more mascara on your daughter -- especially her lower eyelashes and perhaps a little eyeliner under her eyes to help make them stand out. A little darker lipstick and blush would also add more life to her complexion. She has a lovely face and I would like to see it framed with her hair on her forehead. Bangs or swept across would be a better style for her. She has a beautiful long neck. Your granddaughter is Shirley Temple beautiful -- a star in the making. Your right and left compositional balance would be better if you would crop a little off the right side. When there are two subjects in a photograph I like to have interaction between the two subjects. If there is no interact it may as well be two separate photographs. You have created that interaction by having your daughter lean towards her daughter and touch heads. There is no question the look on your daughter's face is one of love. I venture to say for you and her lovely daughter. You are a very lucky person. Your granddaughter's look is more one of love for you and thinking that grandpa's taking another photograph. This is one for the wall or mantle. Nice shot, Mark Link to comment

hoosier 0 Posted November 5, 2009 Though I rather like this shot, I was reluctant to post it. It was a snapshot, taken in haste as we left, which can be seen in its virtues and its faults. The cropping, as you noticed, is problematic. I was inclined to crop more from the right, but that would mean cutting into her neck. Would that look odd? I certainly value and appreciate your advice. It's gratifying to have someone with your expertise take interest in, and compliment my work. Best regards, from a fellow traveler. Link to comment
