I know that it is not all that clear and could be worlds better, but....it's a wolf in our back, backyard!! Maybe 10 feet from our Barn!

Just do an image search on Google for gray wolf. Every face shot is the same as this one. Mama Mia. Where do you live?

Anyway, you're right. It is out of focus as the window probably screwed everything up. My hands woulda been shaking.

The photo of the gray wolf above is from the US Fish and Wildlife Service website.

Coyotes Janis, with pretty good Winter coats for Texas.

(It) Doesn't look as hungry as I've seen 'em. A nice one though. How's the rabies situation in your county. These being out during the day are probably more related to the fronts moving through the state and the full moon and/or hungry and smelling food nearby. (He doesn't look rabid.) He had your number and was curious enough to stand for a portrait. Nice shot. They will most likely return if they are not being bothered and finding food successfully. I sure enjoy listening to them every night. ~Sky

Thanks Sky. My husband also said they were coyotes.

We hear them every night. Incredible how they communicate.

Our dogs were pinned maybe 25 feet from him! They acted crazy all night til we had to put them up. Now how do I send my grandkids out to play ....always something!

They can definately become a problem for kids and pets if this area is fairly populated and they are showing up during the day. Just keep that photo eye alert and prepare new tactics if they do continue to frequent the neighborhood. Good luck with them. ~Sky

A wolf that near your barn... has he come for food or... just checking the area... what a treat to see one in the wild... I would be trying to find a way to make my animals safe...

Well folks, it looks like it is for sure a coyote.

I was told by the Texas Parks and Wildlife that there has not been a wolf sighting since 1960 in the Texas area......GOOD!!! My husband said from the beginning that it was a coyote.....I guess there is a moral there!

Thanks for sharing in the fun with me.

The Mexican Grey Wolf was reintroduced to Arizona and New Mexico in the Late 90's. Last I heard they were doing extremely well and popping up in places well outside their original placement. Coyotes are not nearly as large as wolfs (hard to tell from this photo) and they do not have the very lanky legs that this animal has. I'm still not convinced of this being a coyote or a wolf.

How much fun is this! :) Sky and the Ranger are correct, it's a coyote. No, it's not the best shot in the world, but it's good enough to happy that you got it rather than not! Do keep an eye out, they may well be back for another photo opp! Happy you shared this! -Anthony
