Sam, even knowing what this image depicts, my eyes perceive it as a single curved surface that extens to infinity. The one side to the right is open to the outer world and this makes it more interesting, since then one automatically has to think about the continuation of that surface to the right.

 

But the real great thing for me, is that lighting, details and pespective work hand in hand to create an almost perfect U-shaped surface.

Nick, about a few hundred meters to the right is the Indian Ocean & it continues up to East Africa, or, when you look into the direction of the bridge, to Antarctica. So, your imagination could take a long flight. I happened to come accross this enineering feature while on my way to photograph kangaroos at dusk. And so it goes & continues.
