False Miniaturization

Tony Rowlett

Believe it or not this building is real! I was directed to http://recedinghairline.co.uk/tutorials/fakemodel/ which describes a cool technique you can use with Photoshop CS to render a real scene as if it were a table-top model like a model railroad setup. This is my first attempt.

In general, the steps are 1) select quick mask mode; 2) mask the center of the photograph which will be left sharp (then get out of quick mask); 3) Filter->Blur->Lens Blur; and finally 4) Curves to promote lighter, plasticy look.
