mjerabek 0 Posted August 16, 2005 Eye contact or not? Please compare this photo with the href="http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?topic_id=1481&msg_id=00DDZg&photo_id=3634818&photo_sel_index=0">previous one in my portfolio and tell me what you think - there are of course some other differences, but the one that interests me about this photo the most is the eye contact issue - what do you prefer, if anything? Suggestions and comments are appreciated. Link to comment

atkphotoworks 0 Posted August 16, 2005 Michal, although I do prefer the other version better for reasons I stated there, I think this one is interesting too. One interpretation is that she is taking you for a ride through her world, as though she is the reporter and you are her cameraman. The only eyes that appear to be on you are hers. Of course, that's just far fetched, so we could say, she seems caught off guard or doesn't kmow what this mechanism is that is aimed at her and capturing her for posterity. Link to comment
amysn 0 Posted August 17, 2005 I prefer this version, for two reasons. I like that we can see more of her face (though that does not require the eye contact). However, the eye contact emphasizes her separation - that she is a kid and this is an adult function, she is removed (and probably hasn't a clue of what is being discussed); her distance from the event at hand leads her to break through the "theatre wall," stepping out of her scene and joining the viewer (you).
