Hi,

This is a photo of Stickle Tarn in the English Lake District takenfrom Jack's Rake in November 2004. There is some glare from the sun onthe right hand side because I don't own any filters but I don't thinkit spoils the picture too much...do you?

The shimmery surface of the tarn was due to hundreds of fish rising.Any constructive criticism would be much appreciated!

Really superb. I love it. It looks a bit processed, though. Specifically, the edges of the tarn seem unrealistically crisp. Did you do anything to it, and could it be done a little more gently?

Thanks for the kind comments, Jamie.

I haven't manipulated the image in any way, so the abrupt change from water to land must be due to the amazing light that afternoon, possibly combined with a cheap lens!

Best wishes, Hugo

Hugo, I thought that was probably the case. The image might just be too bright. If you had a raw image file, you could reduce the brightness in a really undamaging way. If not, you could try using curves in photoshop. In either case, it would be interesting to see it.

In my opinion it is a perfect place (and frame) for a "different seasons" or "different times of a day" project. It seems to be an isolated place and/or you have managed to create such a feeling. Try again with different light and sky - I think this place deserves more shots like this. Nevertheless this is a kind of landscape shots that I like the most. The composition here is neither obvious nor boring and your decision to exclude the sky (which is still present in the picture) was right. Good work. (A5/O5)
