I've been wanting to know how to achieve this kind of effect on my portraits for a long time. As an amateur, I don't know all the ins and outs of portrait work--especially not ps work like this that I see so often on this website and that brings photos so much to life. What effects have you used here and in your other portraits? I would greatly appreciate the help.

I absolutely adore this picture...it makes you want to know the man, the story behind every wrinkle. I cant get enough of looking at it.

This looks like HDR to me.

for those that don't know what HDR is...

HDR involves a lot of post production and that is what gives it this intense look, almost looks like an illustration.

 

still it is a nice pic. This style is coming into fashion right now in the commercial scene.

This is Truly PERFECT...the Eyes and the Smoke are GREAT! AMAZING JOB!

It is a beautiful portrait, but this dragan effect is so overuse that i didtn find anything cool anymore about it. Nothing to do with HDR (as one said before).
