I agree, it shows where he's coming from not where he's going. Because this picture shoes it so nicely, the title is not only unnecessary, but also tends to narrow the interpretation. This pic is good enough to trust the viewer to make his own interpretation.

a perfect shot in any aspect: excellent composition with striking lines, harmonic color tone, exact timing by placing the figure, a wonderful image in combination with deep human meaning complemented by vivid details like bag, umbrella and cane. I agree with Bernhard Mayr, it seems no title could really suit this most impressive picture.

Thank you all for the interests in my photo and kind comments! I understand your points on the title quite well. Actaully, I'm not satisfied with the current title "Having been through a lot" myself. So, I've decided to leave it out, until I have a better idea, or someone makes a good proposal.

I like the shot.

It evokes thought immediately. Nice composition, lighting, I think showing the stairs all the way up to the top is good, too. Gives perspective.

I was toying with titles, because it is such a good story. It drives home a point.

How about: Time to Rest, Has Seen A Lot of Steps, Hard Day at the Office...maybe those can help get the thought process moving...

This is an amazing photo. So touching.

The title that came to my mind immediately was "An eternity"

Julia, I admire so much your photo.. I stay a lot of time looking for a title... don't find... It's impossible... I' m paralysed by so much beauty and its meanings...Thanks a lot for sharing this piece of perfect art.

Thank you all for your kind comments and suggestions!

Now, I've decided to use the above title for my picture which lies in the same line as my original title, but won't narrow any further interpretations.

This prolific portfolio of four images is impressive for its depth of understatement. The astronomical accolades her colleagues have given these pictures (inadequate though they may be) truly create a certain impression in this, and other viewers' minds.

who cares about titles, rules of composition, or exposure systems. you have an image here that obviously speaks to every viewer and that has to be the greatest compliment and the greatest fulfillment as a photographer.

i am moved, jealous and inspired.

thank you, julia.

I'm sure this would look fine on a beermat or enamel tea tray, hey you could probably knock together a nice jigsaw puzzle for your aunt, but sadly this pic isn't the second coming

(although I'm sure we all know this, or did someone invade and switch places with everyone else here except me).

I must be the only one with no taste...I don't find this picture very interesting.

'I won't take my medicine, Sister, and hey

let the guys watch the ballgame.

Hey Chief want some gum.?'

Maybe I too don't get it, but even if it's an ok photo, I really can't see it as a masterpiece of originality and aestetic value. To me it's a 6/6.

Just posted my new picture and than saw your message. Thank you for taking trouble to comment my photo which is more important for me than the rating. Don't worry, you are not the first one to say so, but the first one to say "ok, let's wait for the 1/1s in my portfolio now..." (the last sentence of your comment which you deleted 5 minutes later). Calm down, don't let yourself infected by Tony.

I also deleted the words "of an old man". BTW I was trying not to sound harsh, but I can say it explicitly now, let's wait for the 1/1 in my portfolio. Better like this? regards (oh, I just deleted the word "too" before harsh)

I think that sometimes photographers as a group get too hung up on the "talk" of photography and forget the story. I like your photograph simply because of the strong story it conveys. Of course this has much to do with your technique and your eye for composition, but that aside, you are a story teller. I want to stand and applaud the gentleman, yet it is probably a daily trech for him. Well done for capturing a moment of his day.
