tomsperduto 0 Posted July 27, 2005 I am not crazy about the square comp, but, the ratings on this image are way to low IMO. It's a nice moment caught in the rain. Link to comment
rina 0 Posted August 5, 2005 Lars, I agree, this shot deserves better rates. It?s a good shot. Would have been great having the boy running into the frame instead of out. Link to comment
allanjensen 0 Posted August 6, 2005 I fully agree with Rhina. The boy's movement should be towards the center of the picture - and at best in normal reading direction - i.e from left to right. I like it anyhow.Allan Link to comment
lars_brorson_fich 0 Posted August 7, 2005 Thanks everybody for your comments. Rina and Allan, I dont think I agree that it would be better, if the boy ran towards the center of the picture, because the theme of the picture is, that he flees from the rain, that is out of sight = out of the picture. Maybe the crop has to be even more radical to make this more evident. I think it is a good idea to make the boy run left to right. I have tried to make a new version with this changes. Also I have made it a colouriezed B/W, because I thought i match the compsition better to make it a bit more abstract. I would apresiate very much to hear your comments on this new version. Re. aubrey 0 Posted September 23, 2005 it's not full of color and contrast and so it gets poor ratings on photo.net. here, the herd rules. but we all know that the art world is full of stories of how the masses often just don't get it. i'm not one into critiquing a photo by saying that it needs to be cropped a certain way or dodged another. but i can say that there is much more impact with this imag as it gets larger. the rain is really interesting. often times, the internet favors images that read better small. i've seen many thumbnails that were very hot looking, but when i saw the art in person it was weak. i think with this image that i would find the opposite. ciprian 0 Posted October 5, 2005 We all know that there are rules when it comes to photography ,we also know that we can break these rules creatively, the result is sometimes delightful . This is a perfect example ,it just doesn't matter in which direction the boy is running, that's not the point ,this picture is a piece of real life very nicely translated on film. Ciprian. Jack McRitchie 150 Posted October 14, 2010 there was another version of this picture that I much preferred and included in my favorites. It's a reverse image, largely monochromatic and a tighter crop if I remember. Do you still have that one. It's one of my all-time favorites. p.s.: I just checked my favorites folder and it's still there along with the lengthy comment I left on it back in 2005, so you must have it tucked away in another folder. Glad to see you haven't deleted it. p.p.s.: And now I have taken the time to read all the comments and have found your revised image along with your commentary which I agree with whole-heartedly. You're right, he's running OUT of the rain and the picture is ALL rain. Good commening on this one again. Link to comment
