john mcduffie 0 Posted July 27, 2005 I slowed this down a bit to get a more velvety feel about the water. Ialso had to get up at 4 am and drive to the location and hike in about2 miles. I did this the day before, but the sun was kiling me beccauseI waited too late in the morning. Link to comment
ken_thalheimer 3,739 Posted July 27, 2005 A polarizer and more saturation through less exposure would do wonders for this Link to comment
danielwoodrum 0 Posted July 27, 2005 there are several things that I like: the motion in the water (thanks to the slow shutter speed), the placement of the rock to give foreground interest, and how that rock balances with the waterfall in behind. I am a bit distracted by the hazy appearance of the upper left corner--i guess too much light up there. you could probably fix it in PS if you experimented a bit. Link to comment
john mcduffie 0 Posted July 27, 2005 The sun was right up there in the left side top corner. If I waited any longer it would have peaked over the trees and been blinding me. I will give photoshop a try. I used a polarizer in the first few shots, but the water seemed to disappear in those shots. Too much of the glare was cut out. Link to comment
randall ellis 2 Posted July 27, 2005 I agree about the use of a polarizer. Also, it would be interesting to see the same shot from a closer point of view, say putting the log across the stream in the foreground where the rocks are now. This would put more detail into the waterfall and might also help with the overly light area at the upper left of the image. Nice image just the same. - Randy Link to comment
john mcduffie 0 Posted July 27, 2005 definately looks better cropped and with the extra contrast. I'm going back up there in a few weeks. I'll try to get some new images after a rain hopefully. I like the way you've moved the waterfalls focus all the way to the left. Link to comment
ken_thalheimer 3,739 Posted July 27, 2005 Thanks, glad you don't mind the alteration. Actually nothing was cropped left or right. Only top & bottom. You from Georgia? Amacalola Falls is a gorgeous park up past Dawsonville Link to comment
john mcduffie 0 Posted July 27, 2005 I shot Amicolla last years. I'm obsessed with waterfalls. My girlfriend/warden is from Dalton, GA. I'm from Tifton, GA. Anyway, we visit her folks a lot and I wander the mountains in search of phtographs to make. I found on once in a remote area on a federal service road somewhere near SC I think called Stonewall Falls that deserves some attention also. There's a shot of Toccoa falls in my portfolio and some other on my website. ( www.colorcrayon.com ) Link to comment
ken_thalheimer 3,739 Posted July 27, 2005 I spent 27 years with Delta. Back in the late 90s they sent a few of us to Amicolla Falls for 3 days of training, The place was beautiful, but alas, no shooting time Link to comment
