Lights Out

DB_Gallery

I was plowing through raw files with my laptop on my porch when the storm started. I saw a "Joel Sartore" type of opportunity befalling me. So I walked up a few blocks to a Mt. road with camera, tripod and release in hand. The exposure was timed by hand at 1/30 at f/8, @ 29-mm. I saw two bolts before it moved on. I shot 4 frames and got one and went home. Back to work I went.

ok, the lightning is real. but i still think it doesn't look right. It looks a bit fake (altough it's real). Maybe you should remove the lightning with photoshop, I think the photo would be a lot better.

Sorry, I don't photoshop scenes. Why do you think it would be better without the lightning? That would make the sky empty. What is your agenda?

I love this shot. I like how the lighting gradually fades into the clouds. I only wish there was more of it.

I can see how someone might think this was composited (I don't really know what a 'photoshop' is in this context - I don't see any retail stores in the landscape). Digital cameras tend to be a little harsh when dealing with highlights. But still, this image is marked as not manipulated and usually professionals don't need to lie about it.
