jam50 0 Posted July 16, 2005 A juvenile Great Horned owl (so I'm told) playing the intimidationgame. I wish the image could have come out clearer but between therain and the camera I was using at the time, there wasn't much I coulddo. (If any ornithologists out there can verify the identification onthis owl, I'd truly appreciate it; I hate giving out falseinformation). Thanks! Link to comment
chris hughes 0 Posted July 16, 2005 Really great shot! Love the framing and the moment captured. How far away were you? It's so rare to see a bird picture that isn't exactly like all the others. You've got a unique one here for sure! Link to comment
jam50 0 Posted July 16, 2005 Thank you Aaron, and Chris: thank you as well. To the best of my memory there was about 40ft and a great many trees between us despite the open feel of the photo. The rain masked my noisy gore-tex and a huge hemlock hid all of me but the camera. He was facing the other way when I first saw him but he turned when I blew kisses at him. When I moved my camera-hand, apparently it caused some alarm, hence this photo. Just lucky I guess. Thanks again. Cheers! Link to comment
j_kluska 0 Posted September 22, 2005 Nice grab! There's quite a contrast between the grays and browns of the owl and trees versus the yellow greens of the vegetation. It might be interesting to back off the color tones a bit to see where the image goes. Just a thought... Link to comment
maria 7 Posted October 19, 2005 Hi James, original photo, I particularly like the colours, reduced to two, that very green and the colour of the trees and the bird, like if the bird would be caught there for ever, alhough it seems like it were flying in the next moment ... regards Maria Link to comment
