Thanks guys.....you know, everything happened soooo fast. I heard a sound, turned around and saw him standing there. He noticed me right away and immediately took off. Wished I had used burrst mode though!!

You captured the very moment and probably at the best shutter speed possible, as the bird is sharp enough, though its wings seem dynamic due to slight blur. Congratulations! Was it one of a series?

The Blue Heron is not actually blue, but grayish.

 

So what bird is this?

Don't know what to tell you, I shot it as I saw it. I do not know enough about photoshop to do anything fancy........so sorry for your confusion and I resent your implications!

I think it's just the way the light's hitting him that makes his color so deep. Beautiful image! Took my breath away!

Thank you Kim.......I was fortunate to get this one. They are so easily spooked. I haven't been able to even come close to capturing another photo of one.
