yang 0 Posted November 4, 2001 Having walked in the forest for the whole afternoon trying to capture scenes of fall, I shot this one last. Any thought? Comments and ratings are appreciated. Thanks! Link to comment

andrew_g. 0 Posted November 5, 2001 Wow! This picture's 'phat'. I love the lighting around the man in the picture; it gives the illusion that he was cut and pasted into the picture...however his shadow reveals he was definately there. I also like how the lighting creates a misty look in the distance. :) Link to comment
julia_liu 0 Posted November 5, 2001 The contrast, the color, the lighting and the fraiming, some how looks like a stage scene, too attractive to be real. I can only say, fantastic shot! Link to comment
markcarp 0 Posted November 6, 2001 Wonderful shot! Very dreamy. I think I would crop the bottom up to the edge of the brown leaves. It would give more emphasis to the girl and you won't be losing anything that contributes to the image. Link to comment
gk photography 0 Posted November 7, 2001 Nice composition with shape and lighting. Maybe just a little too much dead space, though.... Link to comment
blago 0 Posted November 10, 2001 Well composed and somehow dramatic picture, Yang. Some white dots (?) over the lady's figure could be removed. The light is a little bit harsh for my taste but here it works. Blago Link to comment
juergen_kollmorgen 0 Posted November 16, 2001 A wonderfully done photograph, Yang. The light and the mood are perfect. It's nice to see how you enjoy taking pictures in the country where I grew up. Link to comment
mbeebee 0 Posted November 27, 2001 I like the photo, and the use of the shadow to add perspective. However, if the person was further away from the hedge (farther down in the lower left, for example), he/she would have somewhere to go in the photo. As it is, it looks like he/she is trapped. You would have to balance this with losing some of the shadow and it's perspective. . . . Link to comment
greg_sommerville 0 Posted December 8, 2001 Beautiful. The only thing I might change is how the woman's shadow merges into the shadow of the tree. If it was separate, and it was almost all the way into the lower left corner, it would be perfect, because you'd have a single visual line of the woman in the upper right to her shadow in the lower left. yang 0 Posted December 8, 2001 Greg, I understand your point very well, since Ive heard it for the third time (not only on this site). Actually, Ive got another shot of this scene that might correspond to your suggestion, and I had a hard time to decide between the two. Here it is for discussion/comparison. I think the latter is better enjoyable as a poster, and the former is suitable for online presentation, (i.e. for viewing on computer screen). Note, replace standard.jpg with orig.jpg to see the image in a larger size. http://www.fototime.com/269923916AD5C57/standard.jpg Link to comment
markcarp 0 Posted December 9, 2001 Hm... I think I actually like the second one better. In this case I think the long forground helps the image and contributes to the feeling of distance from the subject. The light source is better defined in the upper right corner and the whole image seemed to be more... concentrated? In this form, it reminds me a lot of one of my own: http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=443402, so I'm not exactly unbiased. Link to comment
yang 0 Posted December 9, 2001 Mark, thank you for your comment! I have just viewed your image quickly, the walking little boy, highly interesting, very lovely. I guess the point focus exactely on the boy might be achieved by retouching, or am I wrong? Link to comment
markcarp 0 Posted December 17, 2001 Thanks. My aperture was at f1.8, which gives very little depth of field. A lot of what I do deals with isolation, so it fits well. Link to comment
