erenozkapici 0 Posted July 6, 2005 The "dance" of the Whirling Dervishes is called Sema. Sema is a part of the inspiration of Mevlana (who was a philosopher and whose doctrine advocates unlimited tolerance, positive reasoning, goodness, charity and awareness through love) as well as part of the Turkish custom, history, beliefs and culture. In Mevlana?s doctrine; man is the possessor of a mind and intelligence which distinguishes him from and makes him superior to other beings. Thus the "Whirling Dervish" or Semazen causes the mind to participate in the shared similarity and revolution of all other beings? Link to comment

jana 1 Posted July 6, 2005 Great photo of the Dervish dance ! I like the mural behind, having the hands just 90 degree from where the dancer has his hands at that moment, just showing the circle of the dance. cheers jana Link to comment
virgilmlesnita 0 Posted July 7, 2005 This is excellent! It is rather a fairy tale than something happening for real. Thanks for sharing. Link to comment
seven 0 Posted July 8, 2005 I like the whirling motion conveyed by the blurred skirts. Seems to have been taken on a stage - did you have artistic control over the shot, or was this a play you were capturing? (I'm thinking of comp and if it were possible for you to arrange the players.) Nice shot. Link to comment

erenozkapici 0 Posted July 8, 2005 Thank you all for your nice words, I appreciate that.. to Steven; That's not an arrangement, a touristic performance taking place around Blue Mosque in Istanbul.. Link to comment
kim_tural 0 Posted July 25, 2005 Beautiful colours and setting. Excellent capture in this subtle light. Love the different textures in the background against the softness of the dancer's garment. Link to comment
acrummey 0 Posted July 28, 2005 There are so many good things I could say about this image, I don't know where to begin, so just one point, capturing the dancer in front of an artwork that appears to portray a Sema dance raises this image a higher level. Ira Link to comment
