I wouldn't have guessed Hernandez unless maybe I saw the two images together. You certainly got a more interesting sky, but there seems to be something missing from this "moonrise". Can't help but wonder what Adams would think of digital cameras. I think he'd love them. If he were around today, I expect some of them would be programmed in an approximation of the zone system. Your effort is both a fine image and a nice tribute. (I wish I didn't have to view it on a white background like this, though.)

It's amazing how some things in NM never change, like the sky, the lowriders, and the landscape. Too bad Phil that you couldn't get a wider shot on it and just taken that big bush out while you were at it. ~Tim

That kicks ass. What a cool project. I assume you must be familiar with Mark Klett and his associates and their "Rephotographic Survey" in which they did much the same thing as you've done, with many of Timothy O'Sullivan's survey photos of the west in the 1860s to 1880s, more or less a hundred years later. It's really good stuff.

Yes, I have seen that project--and marvelled at the changes, and the non-changes, in many of the images and locations. Hernandez has changed A LOT, and the road that I stood on to make this photo had so much traffic on it, that I doubt Adams could have set up his equipment and made the photo. It was a Wednesday.

I'm so glad a few people have viewed my essay, as I really enjoyed doing it, and hope to find another such inspiration.
